Here’s the follow up post to 17 Fun At Home Date Ideas, but this time I’m sharing how Beau and I have managed to have some “outdoors-y” dates during quarantine.
1. Play catch: baseball, Frisbee, football
Even if you don’t have a yard, just a little bit of sidewalk or an alley can be a worthwhile substitute for a park. Of course, be mindful of cars, and if anyone is trying to pass by, give them 6 ft. of room. Our neighborhood is so eerily quiet that we’re able to go out in the middle of the street 1950s style.
2. Pull out the lawn games and have a tournament!
If you have any lawn games hidden somewhere, time to have a one-on-one tournament! If they don’t need too much room, you could even try moving your car and using your parking spot for some short distance corn hole.
3. Outdoor Workout
Working out outside feels really good these days. Doing it with your significant other could be worth it! There are great outdoor fitness ideas on YouYube. Beau and I don’t usually work out together, but we’ve had to lean on each other for accountability some days when our friends weren’t available for a virtual workout. Here’s a challenge we did outside:
4. Go for a walk around your neighborhood and go “house shopping”
Beau will be the first to admit that he never thought he would ever be an HGTV viewer, but after a few bets were lost and some House Hunters and Fixer Upper episodes were played – he has converted! We love walking around our neighborhood pretending we are house shopping! We’ve spent entire weekends going to open houses just to see what’s available. We’ve found that it’s still a super fun date to just “window shop”!
5. Catch the sunset or sunrise
If you don’t already know where the best place in your neighborhood is to watch the sunset, go for an exploratory adventure at sunset! A couple of years ago, Beau and I discovered that you can not only see the sunset perfectly from two streets over, but we have a first class view of fireworks on the 4th of July! It’s not a totally hidden gem, as some of our neighbors pull out lawn chairs and watch from the sidewalks, but we seem to be the only ones that remember this magical little corner lately. We’ve been walking over to see the sunset, and it has felt like a little getaway!
6. Take a virtual tour of a national park!
Miss going on epic hikes? National parks have you covered with jaw dropping virtual tours! Travel and Leisure has the list of parks offering virtual tours!
7. Plan your next outdoor adventure: hike, camping, trip
After watching those virtual tours, you’ll likely be left wanting more. No better time to plan your next adventure! Plan it down to what hike you will do and what recipes you want to try!
8. Camp in your backyard!
If you have a little patch of grass (or more) and you enjoy camping, you might enjoy a night under the stars! Set up your tent, fire up the grill and enjoy your favorite camping activities and meals! Might I suggest my no mess s’mores?
