I’ll be the first to admit, quarantine has been delicious and fun on the food front. I tried way too many recipes from Instragram. All the baking, all the frying… all the yum. But as we near the end of the lockdown, I’m realizing that’s not the best recipe for a healthy immune system.

Here are a list of immune system boosters and supplements to get us back in shape and ready to go back out into the world!

I know some of these suggestions sound obvious, but how easy were they to forget during lockdown? Now is the time to reinforce these habits to ensure we don’t get knocked out with a cold as soon as we’re allowed to go out again.

I just learned from my doctor that isolation is actually an immune system depressant! Since we are home, not interacting with our community and society, we aren’t being exposed to beneficial bacteria or trace amounts of viruses that are crucial for our body to build up immunities to many diseases. Doctors are fearing we will get sick more often because we lacked social exposure for these months… Need I say more?

What we can do today:

1. Prioritize SLEEP ✓

7.5-9 hours is absolutely essential for overall health and well being, non-negotiable. Check out my 9 sleep hacks to help you get your zzz’s.

2. CUT BACK ON TREATS ✓

I need to hear this one for myself… Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but cutting back on sugar, alcohol, and processed foods will really help bring down inflammation in your body and help your immune system do its job. Don’t shoot the messenger!

3. KEEP MOVING ✓

If you’re like me, you might have gained a few quarantine pounds… no better time to up your fitness game. If you need a little extra motivation, try my Netflix & sweat hacks 😉

4. Prioritize RELAXATION ✓

I know that might be the last thing on your to-do list right now, especially if you are a parent, but stress is one of the worst culprits to lowering our immune system’s response. Even just 5 minutes per day of intentional relaxation like meditation, taking a bath, a short walk, or sitting on your porch has been proven to boost your immune system.

5. Stay HYDRATED ✓

We all know how important it is to drink our 8 daily glasses of water, but when it comes to actually doing it… some of us struggle. I could not for the life of me remember to drink water until I found a hydration reminder app and a few other hacks.

6. Boost your Immune System with SUPPLEMENTS

I am not a healthcare professional in any capacity, but these are the supplements I have been using to ensure my immune system is supported. Ask your doctor if you have any concerns over using these supplements.

Sambucus Eldeberry 3-Way Immune Boost

This all inclusive immune booster capsule contains powerful antioxidants, zinc and your daily dose of vitamin C. Beau and I take 1 capsule each everyday.

Vitamin D

We could all use a boost of vitamin D after being indoors for these months!

Vitamin B

Did you know that not all B vitamin supplements are readily digestible? After doing my research, I finally found a pre-digested / activated B vitamin! Yes, it’s a bit pricier than other vitamin B’s, but at least you can ensure it is giving you all of the benefits and you are not just peeing out your money! This vitamin B also has “sustained release technology” meaning it is slowly let into your bloodstream for steady energy all day long. Make sure you take it in the morning or early afternoon so you don’t affect your sleep!

Turmeric Curcumin

Turmeric Curcumin is the ultimate anti-inflammatory supplement.

L-Lysine

Commonly used by athletes as a natural performance enhancer, this amino acid supports calcium absorption, your immune system and respiratory health!

Bee Propolis Throat Spray

This all-in-one immune booster spray is made from propolis, a special compound that coats and protects beehives and our throats. A natural antioxidant that also helps soothe sore throats.

I like to keep all of my supplements in this day-of-the-week pill box. It helps me keep track of when I have taken (or missed…) my daily supplements. I have two. I like using one of them for my morning supplements and one for my nighttime supplements that I suggest in my sleep hack guide.

Stay Healthy friends, I hope these tips help you and your families!
